How I Fixed My Internet Connection Offline With Driver Booster

My internet stopped working one day, out of nowhere. I hadn’t changed any settings. I hadn’t installed anything new. My router was plugged in with green lights on. But my PC just refused to connect to anything. After frantically searching and trying everything for an hour, I finally discovered the real issue. My network driver was busted. The tool that saved my butt was Driver Booster by IObit.

Here’s the full story of what happened, how I fixed it, and why Driver Booster now lives on all of my PCs.

The Issue Came Out Of Nowhere

I was just doing work like normal when all of a sudden, my browser wouldn’t load websites. When I ran Windows Network Troubleshooter, it just spun indefinitely. I opened Device Manager and checked my network adapter. That’s when I noticed the yellow warning icon right next to my device name.

My driver was missing or corrupt.

Here was the problem: the only way to fix my network driver was to download a new driver. But how could I download a driver if I didn’t have the internet?

That’s when someone told me about Driver Booster’s offline installer. I went to my friend’s computer, downloaded the setup file, copied it to my PC on a USB, and followed these steps.

What Driver Booster Does

Driver Booster scans for outdated, missing, or corrupt drivers on your Windows PC. Then it updates them quickly and easily with just a few clicks of your mouse. It supports Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 (including ARM64). Bonus points: it’s free.

Driver Booster has the largest driver database out of any tool that I’ve seen. Seriously. Their library contains over 18 million drivers. Eighteen million drivers. So, if you have old hardware or really niche devices, Driver Booster just might have your drivers.

I remember scratching my head at how one tool could support so many drivers. It was quite impressive. My network adapter was several years old. But Driver Booster recognized the exact model and had the driver I needed.

Is it Safe?

The first question I had before using any driver-updating tool was How do I know these drivers are safe to install? Because let me tell you, I did NOT want to make this problem any worse.

Driver Booster takes driver safety very seriously. For starters, every driver in its database is sourced from official manufacturer websites or Microsoft directly. That alone was a huge relief.

But wait, there’s more. Not only are all drivers from trusted sources, but each driver also goes through Microsoft’s WHQL certification process. What’s that? More testing! Every driver also goes through an internal security review by IObit before being added to their database.

WHQL certification means each driver gets vetted twice. I loved that because it meant I wasn’t just downloading random files from a server somewhere. I was getting clean, certified drivers who were manually reviewed by a professional team.

Driver Booster’s Offline Updater Saved My Bacon

Driver Booster has something called Offline Driver Updater. When prompted to install from an offline source, Driver Booster can install drivers from a folder on your computer.

How it worked for me: I went to my friend’s computer and downloaded Driver Booster’s offline driver package. I plugged the USB drive with the installer into my PC and followed these steps:

Fixing my driver was literally that easy. Three minutes and my PC could access the internet again.

If I didn’t have this feature, I would have had to manually search each manufacturer’s website for my driver. Driver Booster saved me hours of frustration.

Driver Booster Does So Much More

While I had my PC connected to the internet again, I took the opportunity to let Driver Booster fully scan my PC. One thing I didn’t expect was how many drivers it flagged as outdated. Driver Booster found 14 drivers that were out of date. Some of them were older than I would have thought.

Not only does Driver Booster update drivers, but it also comes with built-in troubleshooting utilities. There are individual tools you can click to diagnose and fix common PC issues like No Sound, incorrect display resolution, failed networks, and device malfunctions. These utilities use proprietary technologies from IObit to automatically resolve problems.

I ran Driver Booster’s Fix Network Failure utility to double-check. Sure enough, Driver Booster found nothing wrong with my connection. My internet has stabilized.

Bonus: Driver Booster automatically creates a system restore point before making any changes. It also backs up your existing drivers so you can roll back changes if an update fails. This backup feature gave me the last ounce of comfort I needed to let Driver Booster update my PC.

Automatic Updates

Something I enabled right away was automatic scanning. You have the option to schedule Driver Booster to scan on your own custom schedule, at Windows startup, or automatically update your drivers when your PC is idle.

I didn’t realize how important drivers were until I stopped messing up and kept mine updated. Ever since I started using Driver Booster, my PC has been rock-solid. Not a single hardware-related crash since.

Should You Get Driver Booster?

Yes, you should. Driver Booster is a powerful driver updater. You can download the free version and do everything I described above. If you need more heavy-duty features, Driver Booster offers a Pro Plan subscription as well.

If you’ve ever had a broken driver, sluggish hardware, or an otherwise disobedient PC, Driver Booster is about as practical as you’ll find. Period. The massive driver library of over 18 million certified drivers covers just about any device you can think of. And their dedicated driver validation process means you’ll never have to worry about installing malware. Not to mention that offline installer if you ever find yourself in a bind.

I went from panicking over my dead internet connection to having a running system in under half an hour. Now Driver Booster lives on every PC I own. If you have more than one driver on your PC, Driver Booster is the utility you should keep installed as well.
